My art is inspired by rubber hose style animation, street art, and cosmic horror. I use the elements of line, shape, and color alongside the principle of repetition to render surreal surfaces where forms warp, twist, and deform into one another. The imagery is turned into a motif tile so I can create any size pattern I would like.
The work has no preconceived meaning. I allow the process of drawing to dictate how the lines and shapes emerge. However, I do apply a set of style conventions with my lines and shapes.
I want my viewer to simply enjoy roaming through the surfaces of my drawings. I want the whimsical shapes and pattern play to make then smile. And as an absurdist, I want the time spent with the work to be fun and light-hearted.
I'm an interdisciplinary artist living just outside of Baltimore, Maryland. I'm also a professor of art and design at a one of the largest community colleges in the state. I teach classes in drawing, illustration, and motion graphics. Before transitioning to full time teaching, I worked in the design industry as an illustrator, designer, and art director for interactive and print media.
